The World Of Popular Music

There’s an awful lot of new faces and sounds permeating the musical airwaves in the realm of popular music. Although heavy beats and play on words are always fashionable, the people behind the sounds are a fresh bunch to be sure. Television has brought out a lot more new stars from every corner of the world. There are good ole rockers that don’t need to look pretty for anyone and are more intent on producing quality tunes that people will remember twenty years from now, but there are also the trendy singers that have created new sounds and add their wardrobes- or lack of- to the current pulse of sound. Whatever moves more than one spirit is what goes on today’s music charts. In the country music scene, there’s still the fun and heartbreak, but some of the old timers from the 1960s have resurfaced adding nostalgic voices to the mix. Trucks, parties, the great outdoors, and the one that got away continue to be sources of country lyrics. Women continue to empower themselves in every aspect of life in country music. Remember when country started stealing from rock roots? How much longer before it morphs into hiphop cow pop? Got a nice ring to it, but can you dance to it? And how would you? If your Sundays carry over throughout the week, the contemporary and gospel music genre has lots of good sounds that provide thoughtful messages even to the most distraught minds. Even people not tuned into religion may get an energetic boost or find a philosophical universal message from tried and true favorites or new souls for the Word. Just because it’s Christian doesn’t mean you can’t get a groove on and move your feet. I double dare you to sit still through upbeat tunes. There used to be a time when tv theme songs were some of the best of the best in music as far as catchy music. Maybe that’s an area that production teams could try to beef up on. Even the really good shows aren’t as hummable as they could be or maybe it’s not that big of a selling aspect anymore. New shows on the stage seem to bring out one or two for those that like Broadway. So let’s get the pointy toed boots on, strap the guitar over a shoulder, tap an over sized drumstick on a fifteen foot lolly pop, and wail along wearing a sequined bustier. Just don’t try to break dance in that get up or it could be painful. At least most of the music out currently won’t be.

Digital Music Distribution In 21St Century

In the era of digital music distribution, is it easier for an aspiring young artists to sell their music? Have things changed for the better or did the uncontrollable file sharing made it even more difficult to reach wider audience and get paid well at the same time?

The distribution channels have certainly changed and while some old-timers are fighting these changes head-on, the younger bands and musicians are embracing them and making them work in their advantage. Back in the days, if you wanted your LP or CD to sell well, you needed to hire a distributor, who took a significant cut from the sales, but made sure that your music is distributed to a great number of record stores. However, this was a model, which worked well for popular and established bands and musicians since each one of their new releases was in high demand. The possibilities for a new artist to reach large audience were almost non-existent, but all this changed with the increasing popularity of the Internet.

Now, you can use digital music distribution methods to have your music heard and your videos seen by millions of fans worldwide. You can utilize the immense powers of the large video sharing websites such as YouTube to release a new song, or have your whole album sold in some of the numerous online music stores such as iTunes, Amazon MP3, and eMusic. By working with prominent distributors like CD Baby, you could reach for the skies, sell millions of copies, and pay considerably lower fees than if you opt in for the traditional distribution channels. You could also sell your work independently and set up your own mini music store, from where your fans could download the songs after paying a small fee for each download. With the ability to reach millions of fans in hundreds of countries, the Internet is a powerful tool that all musicians should use, and combining the mainstream and the digital music distribution channels is an approach, which could help a struggling independent artist get his or her music heard.

Musicians Get Aches And Pains Too

I’m not sure why it is that only athletes and weekend warriors are associated with injuries. Well, I suppose office workers fall into that category as well.  But musicians also do a lot of repetitive movements that can lead to carpal tunnel type problems.  If you fall into that category, I would recommend Read more…

One of the things that caught my attention when I watched Britney Spears live in concert was the fact that there were selling some products in the venue.
